The light rail has been around a while in Tempe, allowing folks to see what it can do for a neighborhood. The Mesa extension came around later, and in 2018, the mayor of Mesa said that there has been $200 million in investments along the light rail line. Downtown Mesa, traditionally an older part of town, has brought campuses for ASU and Creighton University. The Mesa Light Rail has brought easy access to places like the Museum of Natural History, The Mesa Arts Center, the Nile Theater, the Mesa Convention Center, and numerous restaurants along Main Street in Mesa. In addition, the Light Rail gives Mesa residents easy access to ASU and employment and recreation opportunities in Downtown Tempe. Further afield, the Light Rail connects to Sky Harbor Airport and Downtown Phoenix as well.
Condos Around Light Rail Stops in Mesa
So what condos are around the Light Rail in Mesa? Unfortunately, there is a short list, as developers have been focusing on building apartments that benefit investors, rather than condos that can build wealth for Mesa residents. One of the newer condo developments is the West Main Station Village. This community of townhomes are great options for those needing a little more space - over 1500 square feet - and 3 bedrooms. Best of all, the light rail station is a short distance away, as is a grocery store and shopping center.
Nuevas Vistas is another newer development walkable to the Light Rail. This smallish newer development of townhomes has units with 3 bedrooms and 3 stories. Discovery at Continental Orchard (AKA Discovery at Sunrise) has two-level townhomes surrounded by lots of greenspace and a community pool. All of these condos are close to the Alma School light rail station.
Mesa Madrid is close to the Alameda light rail station, and has 1 and 2 story townhomes with patios.
As of 2018, only 18% of the total riders are Mesa residents. But as the Mesa light rail corridor grows into itself, we'll see some of the older development make way for the new.
